Fillings

Composite fillings

Dr. Tobias provides many modern restoration options as healthy, good-looking alternatives for traditional mercury fillings. Composite restorations are aesthetically pleasing, non-toxic, and give the finished tooth almost twice the strength it would have with a mercury filling.

Composite Fillings

In the past 10 years filling technology has improved immensely, allowing the use of composite resin material for fillings throughout the whole mouth, not just front teeth. Resin composite fillings are made of mixed ceramic and plastic compounds tinted to perfectly match your teeth. These materials create a tight bond with your existing tooth structure helping to retain your tooth's original physical integrity and providing superior, lasting results when compared to amalgam fillings. The resin can even be molded to help reshape disfigured teeth serving as both a cosmetic improvement and as a filling.

Inlays and Onlays

Like a crown, a porcelain inlay or onlay is used when a tooth has become so damaged that a standard filling would be unsuitable. Inlays and onlays differ from a crown or a filling though. Crowns cover the entire tooth, and a filling patches spaces together. Inlays and onlays are solid milled porcelain and can replace whole cusps and biting surfaces of your teeth.

Inlays and onlays are designed to match the bite strength and feel of your natural teeth. Unlike fillings, which leave a tooth slightly weakened, an Inlay or onlay restores teeth to their original toughness. As an added bonus porcelain inlays and onlays match tooth color, so the restoration looks natural and healthy. With proper care, porcelain inlays and onlays can last for many years.

Dr. Tobias can provide an inlay or onlay in a single visit using the CEREC process. To learn more visit our same-day restorations page or...
